The once vaunted Baltimore Defense is having a hard time keeping players on the field. They was already down a key player when the 2011 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, linebacker Terrell Suggs went down in the offseason with a torn right Achilles tendon, but after the win at home against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6 the Ravens’ defense got hit with an overwhelming combination with more key injuries.
Ravens other star linebacker Ray Lewis completely tore his right triceps in the fourth quarter of the Week 6 game, cornerback Lardarius Webb has an ACL tear (second), defensive end Haloti Ngata has a sprained MCL and the public just found out that star safety Ed Reed has a torn labrum in his shoulder (he will try to play the rest of the season).
The dominating defense is starting to show some age and weaknesses. The run defense has allowed +200 yards in consecutive games and is ranked 26th in the league (25th overall). Going into Week 7 against the Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium is going to be an uphill battle going against running backs Arian Foster and Ben Tate who are known to break long rushing yards at any time. You got to wonder if this might be the end of a great era in a great Ravens defense or will they muster up a good two more years.
I sure hope it’s the latter.
