University of Maryland going to the Big Ten

U of M Board of Regents had a vote Monday morning to decide if the school was going to apply for membership to the Big Ten Conference.  The vote was in favor of making the move.

The official announcement is scheduled for a 3pm at the College Park campus.  It has been reported that the Big Ten had to approve of the expansion (the presidents/chancellors of the current members schools of the Big Ten) and it was a unanimous response.

First, U of M must pay an “exit fee” to leave the ACC; this fee was increased from $20 million to $50 million in September.

The Terps are scheduled for Big Ten play in the 2014-15 school year.
