Darrelle Revis is on the trading block?

Derrelle Revis in action

As unbelievable as that sounds, the New York Jets might not have a choice but to put one of the top (if not the best) cornerbacks in the league; “Revis Island” might have a new zip code in 2013.

Darrelle Revis will be a has a 4yr/$46M contract that ends in 2016, but he has a player option set for the end of the 2013 season, and the way he orchestrated 2 rough negotiations in the past, he will definitely excercise the option.  He is making $6M this season and he will be going after “Mario Williams” (Buffalo Bills defensive end) type of money, which will be in the $16-$17M range, that is a hefty price for a player who just came off of knee surgery to repair a torn ACL.  The Jets are already $19M over the cap (thanks to former GM  Mike Tannenbaum).

The New York Jets have a new general manager in John Idzik and he was hired to clean up the mess and rumor has it that he convinced owner Woody Johnson that it might be financially feasible to put Revis out on the market and see if they can get the multiple players and/or picks that they need in return.

On Thursday afternoon, a tweet from @Revis24 indicated that the cornerback was….

On Dec. 31, Baggie Day, Revis stood at his locker and said:

“I definitely want to be here. This is where I live. This is the team I got drafted by. I owe a lot to them as much as they do. I’m here. I don’t want to go anywhere else. If anything, all the stuff that’s been going on, I’m here to fight through it and help this team to be positive and win games. That’s all I want to do.”

Sources say two of the teams interested in Revis is the New England Patriots  and Buffalo Bills but they cannot trade him to  division rivals, they are not that stupid, right?  Don’t answer.

Other teams who have their radars up are the Denver Broncos, San Francisco 49ers Seattle Seahawks and maybe the Green Bay Packers.
