It is something to be said when your favorite university’s football or basketball team starts to have a “winning way” about themselves, to the point where they are being recognized and respected; much can be said about the Baylor Bears football team. Nobody real noticed them until a couple of years ago when they were upsetting teams that were using them as an easy win in the past and let’s not forget the emergence of the quarter back that was known as RGIII.
When your team gets recognized and is seen on national television and all the sports channels highlights more and more, you have to match that exposure with a little swag; that means you have to step your uniform game up and that is exactly what the Baylor Bears have done. During the NCAA college Big 12 Conference Football Media Days on Tuesday, Baylor seemed to be the talk of the town and they showed up with high expectations and highly visible gold chromed helmets. The helmets came out in January, but it looks like they made a couple of tweaks during the summer to make it more visible; one of the obvious changes was the gold accents around the lettering on the side of the helmet.
“That’s what it’s all about,” Baylor coach Art Briles said while pointing at one of the helmets. “You got style, you got attitude, you got effort. You have an image, and our image is we’re going to play fast, we’re going to be fearless, and we’re not going to worry about what other people think, because we know who we are and we know what we’re going to do.
“So the new uniforms and all that stuff, it’s tied in with presenting the image that we are at Baylor, and that’s being really good football players and really good students at a really good university.”
It seems like RGIII put the team on the map and they are running with the momentum; they have new uniforms, a new stadium on the way and an explosive offense. Tevin Reese has breakout potential at receiver and Lache Seastrunk is one of the top running backs in the nation and believes to be a Heisman Trophy contender. Things are definitely looking brighter for the Baylor Bears.
