Two foreign-born players and former teammates achieved historic milestones in NBA history on the same night. Dallas Mavericks All-Star power forward Dirk Nowitzki hurdled to 10th place on the National Basketball Association’s all-time scoring list while former Mavericks’ point guard Steve Nash made his mark by moving up to third place on the all-time assist list.
In Tuesday night Mavericks 95-83 win over the Utah Jazz, Nowitzki scored 21 points to bump legendary Oscar Robertson out and slid right into the #10 slot on the all-time scoring list. “Big O” has 26,710 and Nowitzki is currently at 26,714 and climbing.
“One of the few times I’ve truly been in awe of an accomplishment,” Nowitzki said. “Top 10 all-time scorers is an unbelievable accomplishment because it’s a level of excellence that’s beyond belief.”
Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash accomplished his feat in the 145-130 loss to the visiting Houston Rockets in the Staple Center. Two minutes into the second quarter is when Nash passed Mark Jackson to grasp third place on the all-time assist list. He currently has 10,335 assists.
The Current Golden Sate Warriors coack Mark Jackson graciously tweeted on Nash’s accomplishment.
Congrats to the Great @SteveNash on passing me on the All Time Assist list! I’m Honored!! God Bless #4
