Madden 15 is scheduled to be released on August 26 and the voters agreed that Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman should be on the cover.
The nationwide contest was set up like an NCAA basketball bracket and there were 16 contestants at the beginning; it came down to two finalists, Sherman and Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton.
Sherman ascended his side of the bracket by topping Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery in the first round of voting (73 percent-27 percent) and Seattle Saints tight end Jimmy Graham in the quarterfinals (75-35), and cruised through the semifinals by beating San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick by a landslide (65-35).
Newton had to go through Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown in the first round (80-20) and Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles (58-42) in the quarterfinals, then he had to go head-to-head with Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck in the semifinals (56-44).
The Seattle corner will be the second Seahawks player to grace the cover, joining former running back Shaun Alexander, who was on the cover of Madden 07 in 2006.
